Jose Luis Chico "The Professor of Old School" passed away on Sunday in Jersey City at the age of 59. Born on February 3, 1958 in Fajardo, Puerto Rico. JL came to the United States in 1968. Four years later, Chico, who was always a big fan of wrestling growing up, started training in 1972 in Hoboken, NJ under the tutelage of David Oyola and George Japonez-Gonzalez.
Throughout his career, Chico was known for facing off with El Tigre Fillipino and Tony Salvege. Chico breathed, ate and slept wrestling and while wrestling Filipino and Salvege up and down the Northeast, he perfected his game and became a well-rounded performer. Any event he performed at Chico would steal the show from the younger wrestlers with his gutsy and gritty performance.In recent years, Chico wrestled semi-regularly on the independent circuit, most notably for East Coast Championship Wrestling. He is survived by his daughters Crystal Tucker and Belinda Reyes, son, Angel Tucker, sister, Maria Chico ,brothers Luciano Estrada, Orlando Osorio, and Vincent Pauta.3 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation at the funeral home n Thursday from 6 to 10 pm. The farewell ceremony will take place on Friday at the funeral home at 10 am with the interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington.
