Gilberto Ortiz was called to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 20, 2017 after a long battle with multiple illnesses. Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, Gilberto moved to New York in 1958 to live with his aunt Josefa and seek out a better future. In 1964, he married his sweetheart, Isaura A. Rodriguez, and in 1971 Gilberto Ortiz Jr. was born. Gilberto was a hard worker, and  worked in many factories during his lifetime.  He loved nature, and animals,  and always pursued his love of gardening  and caring for stray cats. Feeding the birds in the parks, was one of his favorite hobbies. He is survived by 5 brothers: Alipio, Antonio, Francisco, Luis A., and Jose Ortiz, and 4 sisters: Iris, Aurea and Consuelo Ortiz and Lydia Ortiz- Delgado,  as well as many nieces and nephews.  He is pre-deceased by his brothers Reynaldo and Rafael Ortiz. Friends and family are invited to attend the visitation at Plaza Funeral Home, Jersey City on Thursday from 9 am to 12 pm. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Fairview, NJ.
